A COUNTRY I WOULD LIKE TO VISIT

 Lost mysteries of the past

One of the places I would most like to visit is in Africa, in the western part of the continent where there is a country called Mali, which has a considerable territorial proportion. The territory of Mali is very extensive and varied. A contrast of climate and landscapes can be appreciated; the desert landscape coincides with the arid climate of the North, and the savannah, which coincides with the subtropical climate of the South. In most of the country, rainfall is scarce and droughts are frequent. The country's main natural resources are gold, uranium and salt. Mali is currently facing desertification, deforestation, soil erosion and polluted water.

The place I am specifically interested in going to is called Timbuktu, and it is the largest district in Mali. This city has great historical value, as it was the site of one of the most important trading posts on the trans-Saharan caravan route and one of the main cultural centers of Islam during the 15th and 16th centuries. The city was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1988. In 2012, in response to the armed conflict in the region, Timbuktu was added by UNESCO to the List of World Heritage in Danger; this is one of my main motivations to go there, as I would like to know the vestiges of that site, and probably do some study of the site, this because since I was a child I was very interested in reading about the legends and stories that unfolded in this space.
